Autumn Beauty

“He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage.”  (Proverbs 11:28)

In mid-October we like to take a weekend trip to Lake George, NY to see the fall foliage.  The colorful autumn leaves would be short lived and we didn`t want to miss it.  The leaves would gently fall to the ground in a matter of weeks and the beauty would be lost for another season.

God explains to us that trusting in earthly riches will cause us to fall, just as those once beautiful leaves fell.  But the person who generously gives will be made rich. Their giving will cause them to flourish like foliage from season to season.

Giving from the heart will cause God`s favor and blessing to come into our house.  Those who don`t give cause trouble or disturbances in their own homes.   Greed and foolishness lead to poverty and so trouble will follow.  Don`t trust in the riches of this world, learn to flourish from season to season through giving into others continually. The Seasonal Giver

The fall and winter seasons in many nations are a time where giving is more recognized as a gesture of unselfishness.  It is a known fact that people give to charities more during these seasons than any other time of the year.  But thank the Lord that God is not a seasonal giver.

The Word of God tells us that our God will supply all our needs, every day, in every season of the year (Phil. 4:19).

Jesus taught us to be like Him in our giving when we have the ability to do so.  In our scripture the Lord was telling His disciples that we are always going to have someone in need and to help the poor, but the eternal Word of God must also go forth.  If we feed a person physically they will be full, but still go to Hell.  When you give to the work of God, you feed the entire body for all seasons to come from now and throughout eternity. Sound No Trumpet

Did you know that charitable deeds don`t impress God?  Why?  Because giving is His idea.  However, society tells us that we should be openly rewarded for acts of kindness and charitable good works.   More glory goes to the person than to the cause it is supposed to help.  Society sets its heart on prideful events so that others may be impressed by our  “unselfish acts” by saying, “Hey, look what I did!”

According to the Word of God, society has it all wrong and is missing a Heavenly blessing because society wants its reward now.  These works of the flesh are prideful and short-term.

The Lord gives us abundance to help others in secret so God gets the glory.  When we give to others without sounding our own trumpet, God Himself promises that He will reward you openly before Heaven AND Earth.  Giving God`s way reaps double blessings. (cw)
"Be careful when you do good things, don't do them in front of people to be seen by them.   If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in Heaven.  Your giving should be done in secret.  Your Father can see what is done in secret, and He will reward you.  (Matthew 6:1,4)

A Psalm of Thanksgiving

There are many things I can thank the Lord for, but what I am most thankful for is God`s Truth given to us by the Holy Spirit.  The Truth of Salvation gives me pleasure to enter into God`s gates with praise, joy and real thanksgiving to My Lord and Savior.  Say this Psalm aloud and give God praise and thanksgiving for His enduring mercy on you.  Thank Him for the blessings He has given you. (cw)

“Make a joyful shout to the LORD all you lands!  Serve the LORD with gladness.  Come before His presence with singing.  Know that the LORD,
He is God;  It is He who has made us, and not we
ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His
pasture.  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving
and into His courts with praise.  Be thankful to
Him, and bless His name.  For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures
to all generations.”  (Psalm 100)
